Waltz Logistics
At this point sbodd and stardustshine are joining us next Saturday for the Waltz. If anyone else would like to join, then we would love to have you. I also thought that this would be a good time and place to work out some logistics.

I was thinking that we should probably get some kind of dinner comfortably before hand-probably aiming to arrive at a reasonably priced and agreed upon restaurant with not too heavy food sometime between 5 and 6. The full event lasts from 8 to midnight, and I would like to stay for most, if not all of it.

That leaves another question: I will not be able to safely drive back to Richmond after that Waltz. It will be too late, and I will be too tired. So, the question is-should I find a hotel in the area, or would someone be willing to put Mary and I up for the evening?

(P.S.: Mary and I are also taking a couple of lessons in Viennese Waltz, although we are still very much beginners. We really want to learn it and dance it well, but mostly we just want to have a good time. It is one of the harder ballroom dances in existence, mostly due to its deceptively fast tempo. However, I believe that there are ways of simplifying the dance that allow one to still dance to the music gracefully.)

Once again, we hope that you join us.

Waltz Dance
Saturday, April 29
Waltz Time presents the 23rd Annual "Evening With Strauss Waltz Ball" - an evening of Viennese Waltz in the beautiful Spanish Ballroom. This special benefit dance for Glen Echo Park includes a Viennese Waltz lesson from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by a superbly prepared program of classical waltzes from 9 p.m. to midnight in the style of "Old Vienna" with musicians Dave Wiesler, Alexander Mitchell, Ralph Gordon, and Barbara Heitz. Dancers are encouraged to wear formal attire. In keeping with this 23-year tradition, the wonderfully restored Dentzel Carousel will be open for dancers to enjoy rides until 11 p.m. No partner required, $15 for lesson and dance. Brief Update
This is probably going to be a very brief update. I am going with Mary so that she can get comfortable dancing shoes at a shoe store. Right now, she is absolutely desperate for comfortable shoes, and she is all the more desperate because we have signed up to take Viennese Waltz lessons in the Richmond area. (It's a small dream of ours to waltz at the Austrian Embassy in Washinton D.C., and the Glen Echo Viennese Walz is coming up.)

Easter dinner was mostly good. Mary seemed to have a good time, and our strawberry shortcake went over well. (The key is to whip the cream fresh and use fresh strawberries.) I do need to figure out what's up with my aunt though. The past few times I have seen her, she has been incredibly rude to me and Mary. Nothing overt, but more just snapping at us, talking down to us, and generally treating us like we are children. It irks me. Well, I'll lean into it and deal with it, I guess.

Oh, my dad also donated his old computer to us. So now we have Internet access again, albeit on a slow, old computer that needs a new keyboard. Still, that was really cool of him. Go dad.

Back to work today. Sort of. I don't know how much teacher work days count. Actually, I think I find them to be quite tiring compared to normal teaching days. I don't know how you people who have all day desk jobs do it.

In any case, I finished and sent in all of my grades, was reminded to get students to participate in their own learning in in-service, and planned out my lessons for the week. I can't imagine what this would be like before the days of electronic grade submissions and specialized grading software. I guess I just wouldn't have as much time to plan and assess.

Trip the Light Fantastic
If there is anything that distills the essence of romance, it is a ball. Is there any woman who would rather not have a gentleman request the pleasure of her company on the dance floor? Is there any man who can resist the bright smile of his lady? Though we may kiss and whisper sweet words impromptu in a park, and they are certainly easier than a ball, one should take the opportunity for the exquisite.

Your company would make the evening all the brighter:

I know that I can just look this up but...
It's so much easier to just ask it here. Also, I know there are people out there who like sharing info on this kind of stuff. Besides, here I get the benefit of multiple perspectives.

What is the history and meaning behind the following:

Lent?

Palm Sunday?

Ash Wednesday?

Good Friday?

Easter? (Okay, I know this one. Sort of. But what is it's significant in light of all the others?)

And did I forget a Thursday in there?

Wikipedia Birthday Meme
Swiped from several people...

Go to Wikipedia . Type in your birth date (but not year). List three events that happened on your birthday. List two birthdays and one interesting death. Post this in your journal.

Events:
1896-An Austrian Newspaper reports that Wilhelm Roentgen discovered a type of radiation later known as X-Rays.

1940-FM radio is demonstrated to the FCC for the first time.

1972-President of the United States Richard Nixon orders the development of a space shuttle program

Births:
Miyazaki Hayao (1941)-Japanese animated film maker

Marilyn Manson (1969)-American singer

Death:
George Washington Carver (1943)-American educator, activist, and botanist

No great themes unless I force them, but I do like some of the individual stuff here.
